New 69-Unit Building Features Upscale Homes Steps from Somerville’s Award-Winning Downtown

SOMERVILLE, NJ – Somerville Mayor Dennis Sullivan recently joined representatives from Sterling Properties and other municipal officials to cut a ceremonial ribbon and officially open SOMA, a new 69-unit luxury rental building steps from the vibrant downtown scene in this Somerset County Borough.

Ideally situated at 110 South Bridge Street and within walking distance are Somerville’s Division Street Plaza and Main Street corridor, SOMA features upscale studio, one- and two bedroom apartments, on-site recreational amenities and an ultra-commuter friendly location just one block from New Jersey Transit train service and minutes from the Routes 206 and 287 corridor.

“This project succeeds on so many levels,” commented Mayor Sullivan. “It’s redevelopment, it’s transit-oriented and it will be revenue-generating. We had a great partner in Sterling Properties to transform this property into an eye-catching residential building where people can live a stone’s throw from downtown Somerville and the train station. We couldn’t be happier with the debut of SOMA which is a big shot in the arm for this part of the Borough.”

The ribbon cutting event, which took place in the lobby of the four-story building, occurs less than a month after the developers opened the doors for leasing. The property has quickly leased over 45% of the residences by tapping into a large pool of renters seeking a city-centric scene at a competitive price. With monthly rents starting from $1,750, SOMA is an incredibly attractive option when compared to high priced rentals in similar transit and lifestyle hubs such as Morristown, New Brunswick and Hoboken.

“Somerville has become a fashionable and highly-desirable residential destination that tops the list when it comes to the state’s most energetic downtown settings,” said Nick Hollenbeck, Director of Sales and Marketing for Sterling Properties. “SOMA delivers a modern and luxurious living experience that fully complements its urban-style surroundings. We couldn’t be more excited to officially debut this building and thank local officials for joining us at this milestone event.”

SOMA

Designed by Comito Associates, SOMA blends seamlessly with the architectural landscape of downtown Somerville. Homes range from 585 to 1,290 square feet of space and feature tall ceilings, washer/dryer in every unit, stainless steel appliances and designer finishes. Immediate Occupancy is available.

The building also offers a state-of-the-art fitness studio and tech lounge. Interior Design firm Mary Cook Associates designed the project’s unit interiors and common space.

Further enhancing the walkability and activity-rich lifestyle at SOMA is a quick walk to New Jersey Transit’s Somerville Station with service into Newark Penn Station and New York City, bringing all the business, cultural and entertainment delights of Manhattan and northern New Jersey within easy reach.

Closer to home, downtown Somerville has been named one of the state’s “Great Places” by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association and was a 2018 recipient of a NJ Future Smart Growth Award for its efforts to create a welcoming and walkable retail and residential district. The bustling tree-lined district draws thousands of visitors each year to delight in its local shops, boutiques, art galleries, fine restaurants, and many events hosted by the Downtown Somerville Association.

SOMA was designed to meet LEED Gold standards, which will not only reduce the building’s carbon footprint and minimize its impact on the environment, but also provide residents significant savings by lowering monthly energy bills and more.

“As part of our LEED efforts, we’ve instituted a bike share program our residents will be sure to appreciate,” Mr. Hollenbeck says. “Rather than getting in a car, they will have access to bikes which will allow them to pedal downtown, save on emissions and also shop locally.”
